PayPal (TM) is a very large and popular service for online payments, especially well known for efficiently handling millions of eBay transactions every day all around the world. PayPal is MORE secure than ordinary credit card transactions, because PayPal will confidentially hold your credit card information, and so you needn't give this sensitive information out to the thousands of PayPal allied merchants.

There is no inherent problem with PayPal itself, but new PayPal users should BEWARE of SCAMS.

A scam called "PHISHING" has become a problem, and PayPal users are a common target. Scammers will send millions of emails falsely claiming to be PayPal service reps. The emails contain links to phony PayPal Web pages where the unsuspecting victim is asked to give their password and personal data.

AVOIDING THESE SCAMS IS EASY! Simply NEVER click on a link in any mail claiming to be from PayPal. If you think the message is genuine, you should close the email, go to your Web browser, and type in www.paypal.com, and handle your account from there. This advice is wise for ANY emails claiming to be from your financial services. "Phishers" cannot get your info unless you click on their link and give it to them!
